The People Have Spoken...

And given the choice between four top-notch opponents to battle with the Tigers, 54% of pollsters want the Tigers to butt heads with Loserville, while UNC follows with 44%.

Honestly, I'm a little surprised that more people didn't select Kansas as their desired opponent. I feel that those numbers suggest that no one sees Kansas as a true rival. However, common sense would dictate that a team who finished #2 would always like another go at #1.

Could it be that no one wants to play the Gayhawks again? That Memphis is scared of another loss? I think not. We stand behind Cal when he says the Tigers will play "anyone, anywhere." Therefore, I feel that the lack of enthusiasm for a Memphis-Kansas matchup is because... Tiger fans don't feel that Kansas is a worthy-enough opponent.

In talking to most Tiger fans, reading countless articles and listening to as many interviews as I could, the great majority of Tiger fans don't feel that Kansas really won The Game of Which We Will Not Speak. While the score of the game may run contrary to that statement, these fans all agree that the Tigers did almost everything they could to lose it in the last few seconds. That is why most Tiger fans feel the end of last season was so rough. That is why talking about Kansas evokes few feelings of contempt. The indifference that Memphis fans feel toward Kansas is not a sign of defeat, but one of indifference, and it stems from knowing that on that day, we were a superior team that just came up a little bit short.

Memphis trailed Kansas for most of the game. We were trailing at halftime, and didn't secure a lead until the eight minute mark of the second half (when KU started missing chip shots). But Memphis clearly had the better team. It was obvious even in overtime.

I think the better question is whether any one of those teams would want to play Memphis?

Refusing to acknowledge that Kansas was the better team (as evidenced by the banner they will hang) is just sour grapes.

We had a our shot and didn't get it done. End of story.

Huh, the way I watched it we won in overtime. Your thug Dorsey had already fouled out and our bigs ran you off the court.

The polls obviously felt that Kansas was the best team when they voted at the end of the season...

What a pathetic excuse of a fanbase. Your fans are all insecure, backwater rednecks that have no idea what they're talking about.

Kansas was easily the best team in the nation last year, and it wasn't even close. We have a program that Memphis will never reach. Your pathetic program will once again resume position as irrelevant once Calipari leaves.

Get real. Most of the Kansas fans I talked to admitted that Memphis lost the game, rather than Kansas winning it. A bunch of Gayhawk blowhards screaming about sour grapes isn't gonna change that.

Didn't the Tigers lose this game? Wouldn't the "sour grapes" be coming from your end? Great "gayhawks" comment though. Takes me back to grade school when things like that were funny.

And you didn't talk to any Kansas fans.

I talked to Kansas fans. In fact, I watched the championship with some Kansas fans. It was clear at the end that Memphis blew the game. The inbound we lost, the missed free throws. Any team with a lead that large at the end should win. Gayhawk is, and will always be funny.

By the way, Dorsey is not a thug. Where did that come from? Is it because he's black?

Dorsey is a thug because he's a thug. Race isn't a factor. From him giving the "choke" sign to the KU bench, to giving our back-up center a hard chest bump after a dunk, to his troubles with the law... there is no better word to describe him. He even got ejected from an NBA summer league game. How much of a POS do you have to be to get booted from a scrimmage? While sitting on the bench?

And if you watched the game with KU fans, they're idiots. No diehard Jayhawk fan that's been waiting for twenty years to see another title come home to Lawrence would say KU didn't win that game. KU didn't keep their lead after the half. Memphis may not even be in the game had KU not gone cold from the field late. The Jayhawks made enough plays toward the end to send it to overtime. Free throws don't always go down. Memphis didn't just stand around while KU whipped them in overtime. KU WON this game.

There are some fairly delusional Memphis fans out there. Even Calipari is living in an alternate reality right now. When he bolts for the NBA next year, maybe some of your fans will be more rational.

It was clear to anybody with a brain that Kansas was the better team. The fact that Memphis is so upset about losing to a superior team is hilarious.

That was the whole point of the post, gayhawk... That Memphis fans weren't upset about WHO we lost to, but that we gave the game away.

We have some excellent classes at the UofMemphis that could help you with that reading comprehension...
