But at this point, knowing the Tigers haven't even begun practicing the zone, I can't imagine they're going to spend much time with it. Dorsey is irreplaceable in there. He freed everyone up to play tight man defense. However, I think the length and quickness of our guards (such as Spoon) will take some pressure off our big men and the defense will almost as effective as last season.

As far as the scoring, a CDR only comes along once a decade, I think. His ability to create his own shot was matched only by Rose. I think this team needs to learn the dribble drive inside and out, because it will help free up those shots. However, the points per game will fall 7-10 I bet, because CDR and Rose could simply take over when the dribble drive was struggling.Jake Bishophttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03257459255305396633noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4259800416131536987.post-87773365841898400912008-10-29T17:21:00.000-05:002008-10-29T17:21:00.000-05:00Highlight of the article: already incorporating Sp...Highlight of the article: already incorporating Spoon into your vocabulary. Outside shooting in major college basketball is so poor these days and a zone can be huge is protecting foul troubled players. While obviously Memphis shouldn't switch totally to it but I think they should practice it to be ready to use it some in games. I don't think people really realize how big Dorsey was on defense in the middle. He got so many help defense blocks over the past few years and this year we don't have someone like that. Don't tell me Dozier or Taggert are going to miraculously change into shot blockers because they aren't. They are decent but nothing like Dorsey. So I think a zone could help compensate for that with certain lineups in the game. Also the with the 3-line moving back 3 pt shooting %'s will be going down so I say use the zone some!Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12735450510004824728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4259800416131536987.post-2209966319871360762008-10-29T12:34:00.000-05:002008-10-29T12:34:00.000-05:00Don't forget about the Tigers' ever-present abilit...Don't forget about the Tigers' ever-present ability to explode from behind in tough games.

I'm actually worried about finding points to replace CDR. The hype around Evans suggests he can run the offense as efficiently as DRose did, but no one mentions losing CDR much as devastating. Trust me, it is. We'll probably get more points out of the front court as a whole with Dorsey leaving (not much of a scorer), but I don't think it will come close to making up for CDR's ability to create. You never know what you're going to get offensively from Antonio, although you do know you'll get staunch defense. Mack and Kemp are great, but they lack the ability to create. If you remember Anthony Rice (the U of M leader all-time in 3 pointers), he was a great spot shooter from anywhere on the court, but he could never create his own shot. Mack and Kemp are very similar. I don't think the defense will miss a step, but the offense may struggle initially to find it's consistent #2 scorer behind Evans.Dacushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15933284760251159292noreply@blogger.com
